The Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro has now declared a national emergency as the government says attacks took place in Caracas and Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira states.

In a statement Venezeula said it rejects "Military aggression" by the United States.

It accuses the US of trying to take possession of Venezuelan oil and minerals, but says it "will not succeed".

Tens of thousands of people have crossed into Lebanon from Syria in the past three months as the realities of life after the fall of Bashar al-Assad takes hold.

A UNHCR report reveals that Syrians who fled Israeli strikes in Lebanon last year—and those who returned home hoping to rebuild— have now been forced back across the border.
